Deal With Worries

Dear Friends,

When you observe recurring worries and negative thoughts during meditation or throughout your day, you can write them all down on a list, burn the list, and bury the ashes in the yard or in a plant.

As you burn the list and bury it, think to yourself, "I am letting go of these negative thoughts. The ashes of this negativity will nourish new growth in me."

You can do this once every two weeks or so. You'll either notice that your list is getting shorter and shorter, or you'll observe one item that stays on the list, and then you can decide to deal with it, either by yourself or with a partner.

Letting go of negative thoughts and worries will free up your energy.

Dialogue

Dear Friends,

In every person there is an adult figure and a child figure. The adult within you has a positive side and a negative side, and so does the child.

When you are feeling like a Positive Adult, you are responsible, caring, mature, and helpful.

When you are feeling like a Negative Adult, you are critical, impatient, "too busy," and egotistical.

The Negative Adult needs RECOGNITION, PRAISE, and SINCERE COMPLIMENTS. The Negative Adult needs to feel VALUED and APPRECIATED.

When you are feeling like a Positive Child, you are curious, funny, energetic, cute, and adventurous.

When you feel like a Negative Child, you are scared, insecure, lonely, sulky. For instance, you feel like sitting alone and wailing, "Why doesn't someone come to help me? Why doesn't anybody understand me? Why is everything going wrong?"

The Negative Child needs to feel SAFE and LOVED and TAKEN CARE OF. The Negative Child needs to know THINGS WILL BE OK.

Here is a dialogue exercise you can do to help re-balance yourself:

Look at yourself when you are feeling bad. Are you being more like a Negative Child or a Negative Adult?

Don't blame yourself, don't feel guilty for feeling this way right now. Just take the opposite role and have a dialogue within yourself.

If you are feeling like a Negative Child, the Positive Adult in you should say something like:

Look, little one, I will take care of you. You will not go hungry. You will have a place to sleep. You will have clothes to wear. You are OK. You are all right. Don't worry. Everything has its time. There is a plan, and it will all be fine.

If you are feeling like a Negative Adult, the Positive Child in you should say:

Excuse me, may I speak to you for a moment? You are really doing a great job! Wow, you have so much responsibility! You are undertaking an incredible amount of work, and you're handling it very well! I just can't believe how efficient and productive you are, with so few resources, so little money. You deserve some recognition for all this. Congratulations!

Writing down this dialogue in a notebook sometimes slows down your brain and helps you "hear" the messages.

Eating

Dear Friends,

It is best if the food you eat is at the same frequency you are. To assure that this is so, you can sing or hum before you eat. This will also raise your own mood, making it more likely that the food will benefit you physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

The Guides

Encouragement

Dear Friends,

Never doubt in the dark what you saw in the light.

The Guides

Invisibility

Dear Friends,

When you feel unsafe, remind yourself that "all is one."

Draw a circle of light around yourself. Next, scroll through your chakras and close them one by one, like tightening the lid on a jar of jam.

Picture the image of a large egg and imagine you are stepping inside of it. Make the "shell" turn from transparent to opaque. Then, change the eggshell into a mirrored surface.

Mastery

Dear Friends,

We would like to send you a message about the Masters you meet on Earth. You may read about or even have the chance to see enlightened people, teachers, yogis, avatars, and saints.

Each encounter with another person can teach you something, whether that person is a recognized Master or an ordinary neighbor.

- * -

Perhaps you have heard about the following two-day exercise.

Day One: you are the student

You are the youngest novice in a vast monastery. Each person you speak to or see is one of the special teachers assigned to you. You are to learn specific lessons from each one, even though they are not allowed to teach you directly but only through experience.

If the bus driver is driving too slowly, your lesson is about patience. Take the time to breathe deeply and silently thank him.

If the cashier gives you too little change, your lesson is about attachment. Ask for the right amount and silently thank her.

If a child next door plays too loudly, your leson is about compassion. Remember your own childhood, its highs and lows, and silently thank him.

Take on each interaction as if it were especially designed for you and your current issues. Be grateful for the wisdom your teachers share with you.

Day Two: you are the teacher

On the second day of the exercise, you are the teacher, and everyone you meet is a student who is eager to learn the path to enlightenment. However, all the students are disguised and are forbidden to reveal their search. You cannot inform them of your position as their teacher or your philosophies. Everything must be accomplished through example.

If you meet someone who is impatient, respond with deep respect and dignity. Don't give in to the temptation to exaggerate your reaction or to scold.

If someone offers you a way to cheat or lie without getting caught, refuse in a tone that says more about you than the student.

If someone tests you in whatever way, feel your strength and know that you are a wise and powerful teacher.

- * -

You may find the most interesting part of this exercise to rest in the hidden nature of the roles you and the others are playing.

For the rest of your life, remember: you can never be sure if you're encountering a saint or being called to serve as one.

Go well.

Reality Meditation

Dear Friends,

We would like to encourage you to see the magic in your world, and to receive our messages which are transmitted through natural beauty, "coincidences," and communication from people near you.

On the other hand, when you get caught between the planes of wonder and wonderING, take a deep breath and do some open-eye awareness meditation. This can be as simple as naming things (and not paying attention to what these things might or might not 'signify.')

Rock. Window. House. Car. Tree. Child. Bicycle. Garden. Light pole.

Don't dwell on each item, don't contemplate it, just recognize it and move on to the next one.

How many objects does it take before you're feeling "present" again?

Use this technique when you start to worry, and when you're feeling "wrong" or "crazy" or just a little confused. When everything seems to hold a hidden significance and you feel as though you've lost the code book, remember that things are also just exactly what they are and no more than that.

The Guides

Tones

Dear Friends,

Today we would like to teach you a simple technique. You can use musical tones to improve your mood and your concentration.

Some of you have already figured this out intuitively. You hum a little tune when you are working, and it provides a "soundtrack" to your activities. Actually, even the simplest tune can harmonize your chakras and allow the appropriate amounts of energy to flow through you at the correct rates.

What is one of your current complaints? Do you find it difficult to fall asleep? Do you have a hard time focusing on the task at hand? Do you feel anxious?

You don't have to be musical in order to find tones to soothe yourself. Imagine the scale and hum your way up it. Go slowly, and stop when one note resonates with you. You may feel an emotion spring up, and that's a good sign. Try humming this note to yourself (or silently in your mind). Use the same scale practice to add a second or maybe a third note.

You don't need many notes to make this work, three will probably do. It could be as simple as "do-re-mi." This is your "cure song," and you can use it whenever you need to. Vary the rhythm and match it to your breathing to meet your needs: faster to energize yourself, slower to relax. You will know that this song is working if it continues to give you a feeling of satisfaction and rightness.

Peace to you,

The Guides
